June 2000 Entries

May 2000 / Main / September 2000

Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been.
You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.
You can't get there by bus, only by hard work, risking, and by not quite knowing what you're doing.
What you'll discover will be wonderful: yourself.---Alan Alda

Thursday 8 June The days are starting to blur together for me now and I no longer have the time or energy left to update this journal by the end of the day, so my presence in cyber-space will be at a minimum for a while---but I will still attempt to make the occasional entry. To tell the truth it is nice to take a break from it and hopefully most of the people that normally read this journal will be out here enjoying the real thing for themselves anyway. Tomorrow is Main Camp and now the fun really begins. The place is more ready for the first day than I've ever seen it with water, electricity, propane, and refrigeration all up and running. All the trucks and equipment ready to go. We're ready for blast-off!

Sunday 4 June It was a massive weekend, well beyond the scope of the usual Construction weekend---but then it was actually a week late and tradition is obviously hard to change. In fact it felt like the first weekend of Main Camp. So while I usually have to struggle with finding things to say, I now have the opposite problem of being unable to describe, or even being able to know, all of the goings on on site. A few of the highlights from my perspective then. The kitchen is all cleaned and moved down and one of the crew is going to camp there during the week to keep an I on things. Ghafoor's Afghani Booth, which for years has been slowly falling into the river, is finally moving. The Fair is facilitating the move by tearing down his booth and moving some of the savable lumber over to is new spot on the Left Bank. Water Crew was out patching up the burst water lines and building a shed off the Pumphouse for the water carts. VegManECs had a big meeting. Registration was getting situated. The Yurts were set up by Monty's crew. Ferrall's Gas dropped off the propane tank. The Reefer Truck, which has no engine, was hauled down protestingly by the tractor. And much more besides. The Sun shined through the whole weekend and I am taking that as a sign for the first great Fair of the new Millennium.

Thursday 1 June Spent the day in town. Met with Leslie and Dan Hitchcock about a cool mural in the bathroom at the town office. I also installed the insulating boot on the sink, which was the last item on the list before it gets inspected tor the upgrade to ADA standards. The rest of the day was spent at CAT. Clif joined me there as he did yesterday and we continued to fabricate more bits and pieces for the HPV which has now been named the Dragon Wagon. Jon thinks that its looking good for getting it done within the budget. I rewarded Clif for his efforts by buying his dinner and afterwards we saw MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2**. About what you expect, nothing more nothing less.
