Quality Water Quality Monitoring

The Oregon Country Fair is participating in a study of water quality sponsored by the Long Tom River Watershed Council in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Environment Quality. Once a month, within a three day period, seventeen separate sites are monitored. The tests include water and air temperatures, river level, turbidity, pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen. The results will serve to strengthen a baseline data set that can then be used to identify water quality-limiting factors, such as fecal colifom and dissolved oxygen, which in turn will aid restoration activity prioritization. Our assigned area is directly under the Highway 126 bridge--which is also where the river enters the Fair Site. Pictured above are Cindy Thieman, project coordinator, and Nancy Hafner, fairgoer and my working partner at this site.
