Look Ma, No Campsite!
This is the rootball of a gigantic Grand Fir (Abies grandis)that blew down in a March 1999 windstorm near Phun Gate in Chela Mela.You can see how shallow the root system really was for such a massive tree, something typical of firs. This was perhaps the second biggest tree on the entire site and one that we hated to lose---but before bemoaning the loss of your campsite, be glad you weren't sleeping here when this behemoth came down!
