A new release of the KGS server is now undergoing beta testing. The
only changes I am aware of are to the tournament system. (I am sure
there are other changes, but nothing important for me.) They are:
A tournament can have more than 20 rounds.
If the tournament organiser specifies Canadian overtime of 20
moves in 60 seconds, the tournament will have Canadian overtime
of 20 moves in 60 seconds; and likewise for other fast settings.
If two players are drawn against each other in a tournament,
having played each other previously in that tournament, then their
colours will be the reverse of the last time they played.
These changes will all improve the bot tournaments held on KGS. I would
like to test them. I would therefore like some volunteers to submit
bots for a test bot tournament. The results of this tournament will not
be taken seriously, and will not count for the Annual Championship. Its
purpose is to test the behaviour of the new server code, and of the
bots.
The details of the tournament may be
9x9 boards
24 rounds
Five minutes each plus Canadian overtime of 20 moves in 60 seconds
Chinese rules
komi = 7
The possibility of 7 komi is not a new feature, but it is something I
would like to test. Bot owners may also want to test how their bots
behave when jigo (tie) is a possible result.
If you would like your bot or bots to take part, please email me. I
cannot promise to accept all volunteers, as I cannot reveal the address
of the beta server except to people approved by KGS. Pathological bots
(such as Aloril's "no-pass bot") will be particularly welcome.
