[ATL2011] News about Above the Limit - 7 August (D-27)

Twilight Fire - ATL Twilight at CampAboveTheLimit.com
Sun Aug 7 16:57:23 PDT 2011

Hi John et al,

Above The Limit (ATL) has indeed been placed at 9:15 and Adventure. We'll be
on the Man side of Adventure, which means that for most of the time, the
wind will be at our backs.

Placement was extremely generous in the property they provided for us, so we
can accommodate more people than we currently have on our list. If anyone
on this list knows of participants who are looking for a place to call home
and who would be great camp members, by all means send them to
http://www.campabovethelimit.com/joining.html

We have a new and very welcome addition to ATL this year: Café Kona. Many
of you know that for the last four years, Above The Limit has served
countless cups of 100% fresh, award-winning Kona coffee every morning. When
KonaCoffeeMan, its creator, couldn't attend this year, we were very sorry to
take it off the plans. However, Barry, Ricardo, Marisa, and Silvio have all
stepped up to provide Kona's freshest coffee to the playa this year. Barry
is bringing something new to Café Kona this year--a giant Elektra coffee
machine capable of producing outstanding espresso and latte. KonaCoffeeMan
may be absent this year, but he's gifting his farm's fine Kona coffee beans
for Café Kona. Big thanks to this crew for bringing back our favorite
morning spot!

It's that crazy time of year as theme camps across the world enter full-on
panic mode to get all the last touches done. There's never enough time to
do it all, and there are always cool things that "if only we had {more
people, more funds, more time}" we'd really like to see happen out there.
We really appreciate your support in making this all happen.

For those of you who have taken care of your dues or contributions in kind,
we thank you very much. For the rest, please at your earliest convenience
go to http://www.campabovethelimit.com/dues.html

If you haven't yet sent in information about the vehicles you're bringing,
the structures/tents/whatever you'll have with you, and when you're arriving
on the playa and departing the playa, please send this info to DarkStar
kaya at psyreal.net -- she's in charge of camp layout and in-camp placement.
We need this information to map out where everything goes -and- do our best
to make sure that everyone is able to leave when they want to without having
to move cars/RVs/tents/structures. This happens often out there, but we try
hard to make this not happen at ATL. BTW, we'll have the updated camp
layout available in the next few days at that site.

We were approved for 12 Early Arrival passes, and they have all been
allocated to those of us working Build Crew. They are all effective for
Monday 22 August arrivals. Note, however, that anyone coming in before noon
Wednesday 24 August must be in possession of a paper ticket, as will-call
doesn't open until then. We do have another five people coming in on Ranger
Early Arrival passes on Friday to help build camp.

We are in serious need of people to help out with take-down and cleanup
post-playa. While we're the first to acknowledge that at the end of the
event, everyone wants nothing more than bolt for a shower in air-conditioned
comfort, there remains a VAST amount of work to be done. We try to get most
of the structures down on Sunday while everyone is still in camp--it's
tradition among theme camps for everyone to pitch in Sunday to get stuff
ready to leave--but there are many weeks of work that go into loading,
transporting, cleaning and storing everything. Our trucks depart the playa
on Tuesday (the day AFTER Exodus) and Wednesday, so if you would like to see
the city being disassembled, you're REALLY welcome to join us. Annie and
DarkStar will address this in more detail in a subsequent camp mail.

A few words about Leave No Trace (LNT):
http://www.campabovethelimit.com/trace.html Yes, we were honored to have
been selected as one of three award-winning camps last year for our
policies, procedures, infrastructure, and attitude when it comes to keeping
our playa MOOP-free. We are published on the event map as a green camp, and
we hold tours of our camp and its facilities to showcase what can be done to
minimize our impact on the playa. We're HIGHLY motivated to maintain our
status, and we do go to great lengths to keep our camp clean. Please
familiarize yourself with our LNT policies on the link above, as every camp
member is expected to take responsibility for our plans. (Yes, the picture
in the link above was actually something we did once to mitigate a MOOP
disaster. It worked, but we hope to never have to do that again.) As your
LNT coordinator this year, if you have any questions about Leave No Trace
policies, please email me at Twilight at CampAboveTheLimit.com .

If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to post to this
mailing list. We'll be answering regularly for the next two weeks, but
after that, it will be somewhat sporadic in the week before the event opens,
as many of us will be on the playa starting two weeks from tomorrow
(EEEEK!!!!) building camp.

For those of you who are new to the playa or would like to see more of what
Camp Above The Limit is about, please check out www.CampAboveTheLimit.com
and particularly the Frequently Asked Questions section
http://www.campabovethelimit.com/faq.html .

On behalf of all of us working to make this happen, we thank you for your
participation in our efforts this year, and we look forward to seeing you
soon!

The Man burns in 27 days!

Subject: [ATL2011] Any news about Above the Limit?

I heard a rumor yesterday that we've been placed at about 9:15 on
Adventure. Could someone confirm that?

We're entering the final stretch. My RV-mates are busily planning
camp meals and bicycles and shopping and water containers and all that
stuff. Reno-based camp members have been working hard (with extra
help from DS and Annie) to clean up the camp's equipment in storage at
the 'ranch' and get it ready for the Playa. Some of the camp dues
have also come in -- thank you!

Do we know about early entry passes yet -- how many we're getting and
for what dates?

Here's looking forward to a great year on the Playa with y'all!

	John
