  • Why does it need a new engine?
    • Has 2300 hours on it.
  • How much for a new engine? $27 to $35k? rebuild for cheaper like $7 to 12k?
  • Was this engine a tourbo? No.
    • A new engine would need new oil coolers govener etc..
    • Flush prop oil, new hoses etc...
    • Engine has four new cylendars because it swollowed a couple of valves.
    • Perhaps engine overhaul would be cheaper?
  • Always hangard but in hot florada sun, so that may be why the radios died.
  • Sale price? $65k but radios have issues, there is frame power. He probably would take $60k if you pressed him.

  • What are all the changes from the Buccaneer to the EP?
    • Prop hub has six inch extension and also cowling to match.
    • Yes you could upgrade a 4/200 to an "EP" by adding the new hub, and extending the cowling by cuting the old at the rivet line and adding the extension.
    • Can a non-EP be converted to an EP? Yes, needs the six inch hub extension and cowling.
      • Can you buy and install the EP prop parts and Cowling? Yes.
  • All lakes are individually built and are different planes, definitely need to fly them to see.
  • Is the hull shape different on an EP or is it just reinforced? Just reinforced.
  • What is the difference between the Hull Strakes and other reinforcement techniques?
    • There was Bradway kit but it's no longer available, Lake hydro boosters are still available.
  • Two main types of propellers the 72 inch Qtip which has bent over tips designed to be quieter, and the 74 inch prop which is noisier.
  • Does it have a reversible prop? Nope, but you can get MT props but they are fragile.
  • What mods if any does it have?
  • Renegade Cargo door with indoor handle, main door stewards, Bat wings, Bigger air intake which provides more air to filter.
  • Do lakes have right toe breaks? No they are Not standard, but you can get them.
  • How much is flight training?
    • Shop rate $125. this is also the ground school, and CFI rate.
    • $395 wet total with instructor for the use of their plane.
    • Expected length of training is 10-15 hours if you have some aptitude, or for others it might take 20-30hr.
    • Training for a seaplane check ride is easier than becoming proficient in a lake.
Owner of this shop is wanting to upgrade to the B6 engine to reduce vibration. He mentioned a Lake engineer named Paul Fernay? Who worked on, and tested some designs.
