I would not choose the Japanese rules. but the almost equivalent Ikeda
Area Rules 3:

The first pass is a bonus for the player but also these rules allows
playing out till all stones are alive
There is a difference that "eyes " in seki's count.

but  i think that natural komi is a better step to do first
