Hello Richard, hello Andy,

thanks for your opinions which highlight an aspect
not discussed so far.

Different cultures in different games may play a role.
When I did experiments with my 3-Hirn against professional chess masters
in the mid-90's, we did similar negotiations several months before the
matches, and it was like normal business negotiations. Noone felt bad
or demeaned.
But I see that things may be different in Asian culture.

"the" pro is a bit misleading. Typically there will be several pro players
(of different strengths) at the EGC, and one of them would do the
exhibition match against the program.
As far as I know offering prize money at all to this pro is new (for the
EGCs).

Last year, the 19x19 exhibition was not really attractive (in Bordeaux),
and my intention was/is to make it better this time. I discussed the
plan with the price scheme with some strong European go players, and
they found it ok.

We have one problem: In the records it is often only said
"pro vs bot at handicap H", without specifying the pro.
There are pro player of rather different strength, and for the
strongest of them winning at H5 might be comparable for others to win at H3.

Ok (but not enough to get a pro at the board) ;-)

Ingo.
